just the beginning

Inspired by the new proud and amazing parents, my big bro Tyler and sister-in-law (SIL) Katie, I decided it was time for me to start a blog of my own. No, it won't be as adorably entertaining as viewing Baby Emma in the cutest outfits. No, it may not always make much sense, seeing as my first post is at 2:15 in the morning after a long night at work. But as I am about to embark on a new journey in life...I’d like to be able to share it with the ones I love.

First off...I want ya'll to understand my blog name. Whether you knew this before or not...I've always been OBSESSED with the band Incubus. Their lyrics are inspirational and you can always find a song or two on each album to jam out to with your windows down. I'm also OBSESSED with the color green. Don't know why...just love it. Anywho, 'a certain shade of green,' by Incubus asks if 'you' are waiting for a certain shade of green to make your next move. When is the right moment? (Now to get really interpretive) THIS, today, right now, next week, my big move to Kansas City, IS my certain shade of green. Hence the name and kind of my motivation for the next part of my life.

As most of you already know, after years of complaining about the state of Kansas and practically running to Texas after I graduated high school….I’m going back to Kansas!!! Most of my Texas family asks, “What the hec are you thinking? I never thought you’d leave Texas again!” Well…neither did I. Don’t get me wrong, this great state will ALWAYS have my heart…but I’m desperate for change. I’ve been working the same waitressing gig since 2006…and I feel like I will never get out of there if I stay in Austin. I unfortunately had a great job opportunity fall through nearly two months ago and it made me do a lot of thinking. Not much keeps me in Austin. All my friends from college have moved forward, many of them back to Dallas. Pappadeaux (the restaurant where I work) is really all I have left in Austin. And god knows…I refuse to waste my college degree on $2.15/hr + tips ANY longer. I’m sure the money Dad spent on my education would say the same thing if it could! And a year after college graduation, I feel like I’m still doing the same things I was doing three years ago. Nowhere closer to a ‘real’ job…so I’m moving on.

For the month of August…I’m living with my mom up in good ol’ Columbia, MO.  God bless my step-dad Jim’s heart for the crazy amounts of girl time he is about to endure. I also recently decided since my mom will technically be my ‘roommate,’ for the month of August, she’s no longer “Mom,”... she’s “Lil’ Mama.” So don’t get confused when I speak about my new roomie.  Then in the month of September, I will be moving in with my two best friends from high school, Mikinzi Martin and Mallory Piva, in Overland Park, KS (a subarb right outside Kansas City.)

Basically this blog will be wrapping up my life in Austin, TX---aka...'America's Playground' 'The Live Music Capital' 'Longhorn Country' and my personal favorite 'Home of the Peter Pans (little boys who refuse to grow up)---and ya'll wonder why I don't have a serious boyfriend!?!? I promise to include some photos this upcoming week so you can see how difficult it will be to say goodbye to my amazing home of 5 years. But this blog will also give you a taste of me taking another shot at the ‘big kid’ world…and starting a life, somewhat, on my own. Get ready Lil’ Mama and Papa Brew, your baby girl…is about to take a big jump forward. Hope your ready for the tears….and crazy phone calls you know this will bring.

Ps—If you don’t believe me about some of the amazing Incubus lyrics…I’ll wrap up each post with some of my favorites! Love ya’ll!!

‘Whatever tomorrow brings, I'll be there with open arms and open eyes’ –Incubus “Drive”
